TWO talented Troon golfers have been honoured in Scottish Golf's prestigious Order of Merit.

There are Order of Merit titles up for grabs across six categories for the 2024 season, and each title recognises consistency of performance for individual golfers.

This is not only in designated point scoring events in Scotland, but also at key amateur tournaments staged across the UK.

Freya Russell, of Royal Troon, triumphed in the Girls category, after graduating from Marr College earlier this year.

Russell’s runner-up showing at the Scottish Girls’ Amateur at Forfar and a top ten finish at the Scottish Girls’ Open at Powfoot helped her lead the rankings.

Playing in five of the eight counting events, Russell took the title ahead of Scotland team-mate Rosie Maguire from Pollok.

The Senior Men category was won by Paul Moultrie, also of Royal Troon. Moultrie revealed earlier this year that he is undergoing a radiotherapy to treat prostate cancer.

After finishing third in 2023, Moultrie’s performance in 10 of the 12 counting events saw him pull clear of runner-up Stewart Henderson.

In particular, a top four showings at the Scottish Senior Men’s Open and a top eight finish at The R&A Senior Amateur allowed the Ayrshire man to triumph.

Each of the winners receives an individually engraved glass trophy in recognition of their success.

Clare Queen, head of Performance and pathways at Scottish Golf, said: “The Orders of Merit invariably produce outstanding champions who have that special quality of being able to combine excellence with consistency across a full season.

“This year was no exception and we’re already looking forward to a compelling 2025 season."
