THERE are just two meetings to go on the Flat at Ayr Racecourse before the obstacles return to the course, with the first of them arriving on Tuesday afternoon with a seven-race card.
Racing gets under way today at 1.40pm with a mile handicap in class five before the action comes to a close at 5.05pm with another handicap, this time in class six.

The opening contest on the Ayr card (1.40) sees a field of nine head to the stalls for the one mile handicap in class five for horses aged three and upwards. Preference here is for the in-form trainer Karl Burke’s runner Tele Red, who won this race a year ago and posted a fine fourth in a York handicap 17 days ago so is clearly the one to beat. Of his rivals, George Boughey’s new recruit Gracious Leader, snapped up from the Roger Vairan yard, can make his presence felt off a third of 11 in a Kempton handicap.
A very small field of four will take on the six furlong maiden stakes in the second contest on the card (2.15) as the two-year-old’s take centre stage. Of the small field, Archie Watson’s Weissmuller has the form behind him, with a third at this track 64 days ago the best on show and should be able to get off the mark here.
Soowaih can end a bit of a breen spell for trainer Jim Goldie in race three on Tuesday (2.50) as ten runners tackle the class four handicap over one mile and two furlongs. It has been thirteen runs since the four-year-old’s last win but posted a solid second in a Hamilton handicap last time out and runs here off an unchanged mark, giving him a slight edge over the next best - previous course and distance winner Pol Roger.
The David O’Meara-trained Jenni looks the one to beat in race four (3.25) having got off the mark by winning a course and distance handicap ten days ago and can shoulder a 3lb hike in the weights this time around to follow-up. Of her rivals, three-time course and distance winner Abduction rates the main danger, while Redarna can also have a big say in proceedings, fifth in the race won by the selection but won this race in both 2020 and 2021.
Sir Garfield was a winner at Catterick in July and a bright second of 13 in an Ayr handicap last time out so is set to take all the beating in race five (4.00) as nine runners line up in the class six handicap. Novak, trained by Ian Jardine, rates the chief threat here, a previous course and distance winner who was hampered when tenth of 13 in an Ayr handicap but a line can be drawn through that run.
Nine runners will head to the start for the penultimate race on Tuesday’s card (4.35) which is a class four handicap, with preference heading the way of Muscika for the aforementioned trainer O’Meara, a veteran at the age of ten that has hit the frame plenty this season, most recently edged out at Epsom, but is sure to go well again in this company.
Finally, Tuesday’s card rounds off with a six runner handicap in class six over one mile and seven furlongs (5.05). Trojan, trained by Jim Goldie, opened his account at Musselburgh in August and confirmed that potential when running well in defeat at Chester 18 days ago, coming third in a hot handicap. Yurinov, from the O’Meara yard, is the next best in this one, fourth of ten at Nottingham last time out on handicap debut with that run shaping better than the bare result.
