Ayr United manager Scott Brown has hailed one of the best performances of his tenure as his players blew away Airdrie in a five star showing.
The Honest Men put five past Scottish Championship rivals Airdrieonians in a delightful display of attacking football, as the Somerset Park side continued their strong start to the campaign.
Ayr now sit top of the pile in the Scottish Championship on goal difference following the demolition of Airdrie.
Jay Henderson got the first of his two goals early on, before George Oakley fired home from Frankie Musonda's cross to put Ayr two up at the break.
Henderson got his second of the night before captain Anton Dowds added two more, with his second from the penalty spot after the impressive Marco Rus was taken down in the box.
After the match, manager Brown told Ayr United TV that it was one of his side's best performances since he took over as manager last season.
He said: "It's probably one of the best performances that we've had since we came in here, the consistency for the whole 90 minutes was exceptional from start to finish.
"I thought the organisation from the lads was brilliant, and the work rate was a different level. You could see as soon as someone got beat, their teammate was over to help them.
"The lads work really hard for each other, and they are close on and off the park. We've had two clean sheets which really helps."
Brown says that his whole team were impressive throughout, from the strikers up front to his back line keeping another clean sheet.
He added: "For us, it's important that our wingers are getting in the box. You want them to get assists, goals and runs in behind.
"The two forwards were exceptional from start to finish and the back four were brilliant. The timing and the quality was spot on today.
"Airdrie are a very good team, the way they play and the composure they have on the ball. For us, small details really helped and today's performance was probably the best since we've come in."
The Honest Men are back at Somerset Park on Saturday as they take on Hamilton Accies in another Scottish Championship clash.
