Hot on the heels of Saturday’s meeting, it is a quick turnaround at Ayr Racecourse as it hosts a bumper eight-race card today (Monday, August 12.)

Racing gets underway at 2.25 with a fillies’ novice stakes before rounding off at 6.15 with a class six handicap over the one mile and two furlong distance.

The opening race (2.55pm) is one for the future stars in the fillies’ novice stakes as five of them head to post for the class four contest for two-year-old’s. Shining Pearl for Karl Burke looks the one to beat here, improving from debut to finish second in a Newmarket novice last month and is taken to go one place better north of the border.

Race two (3pm) is a fairly low grade contest in the division one classified stakes over the one mile distance. Rock And Royal scored at Yarmouth a fortnight ago and is likely the one to beat again. Of her rivals, Wallaroo can provide the main threat, sixth of nine in a handicap 16 days ago but is back down in trip and also down in grade so should enjoy these calmer waters.

Aspire To Glory holds a strong hand for trainer Alice Haynes in race three on the card (3.35pm), aiming to get back on track after a below-par fifth of 10in a Yarmouth handicap last time out having previously been in solid nick. Keep Me Stable drops into class six company for the first time having struggled for some form previously so rates as the main danger for trainer Linda Perratt.

Sir Garfield was only narrowly denied at Ayr on Saturday over this trip and could be turned out quickly to right that wrong on Monday in race four (4.10pm) as 13 runners tackle the class six handicap over seven furlongs. Previous course and distance winner Novak has returned to form after five months off with a second in a Newcastle handicap 10 days ago so should be bang up there once again.

Ten runners will head to the stalls for the one mile and two furlong handicap in class four which marks race five on the card (4.40pm) and course specialist Pol Roger, a back-to-back racer winner in May, is taken to keep up his good record at Ayr here. Aviemore is feared most as he arrives here off the back of a course and distance victory last month to rate as a big player.

Division one of the class six handicap (5.15) can go the way of Atomise, who has one win from 23 efforts on the Flat but has been in good form since the Spring so enters calculations on Monday, while division two of the same discipline (5.45) can head to Ramon Di Loria for trainer Ewan Whillians, a runner up twice of C&D last month who faltered last time out but reportedly lost three shoes during the race.

Finally, the card comes to a card at 6.15 with the one mile and two furlong handicap in class six for the three-year-old’s and up, with preference in the finale heading the way of the aptly-named Ayr Poet, a five-time course winner who has been victorious in the last two runnings of this race for trainer Jim Goldie.
