FIXTURES are coming thick and fast as the West of Scotland Football League season enters its second week.

Across Ayrshire, sides from every division had both midweek and weekend fixtures to contend with - and consistency was hard to come by.

In the Premier Division, Glenafton Athletic made it a perfect start on Tuesday, July 30, when they caused yet another upset to defeat former champions Darvel 2-1 at Recreation Park.

On Saturday, August 3, Ryan Caddis' side would face defeat for the first time as big-spending Johnstone Burgh came to Loch Park and earned a 4-0 win - the visitors first of the season.

While their midweek opponents Darvel continued their early season struggles, and were defeated 4-1 by Troon on Saturday - leaving the East Ayrshire side without a point yet this season.

The victory over Darvel rounded off a positive week for Troon, with the South Ayrshire outfit also winning their midweek fixture 2-1 away to St Cadoc's - making up for their opening weekend defeat.

Hurlford United also picked up their first points of the season in midweek with a battling 3-2 win against Benburb at Blair Park.

They would add to their tally again on Saturday after a goalless draw against Largs Thistle at Barrfields Park.

Largs remain unbeaten this season, with draws on both their weekend fixtures so far this season. Though they went one better in midweek where they picked up a resounding 3-1 win away to Cumnock Juniors.

After a positive opening fixture, it was a tough week for Cumnock who were defeated once again on Saturday.

They travelled to Beechwood Park for the first big derby match of the season and lost 2-1 to rivals Auchinleck Talbot who notched the winner late in the day to secure all three points.

Tommy Sloan's men are another side yet to face defeat so far this season, with their midweek match against Johnstone Burgh ended 1-1, resulting in a share of the spoils.

Drumchapel are currently leading the way in the Premier Division, holding one of only two perfect records so far this season alongside Clydebank.

They picked up a statement victory in midweek, defeating last season champions Beith Juniors 1-0 at Bellsdale Park.

The winners of the last two titles would struggle further on Saturday, as a rollercoaster match against Benburb finished 2-2.

Into the First Division and Kilwinning Rangers picked up their first victory in midweek and Kevin Kelly's men defeated Ashfield 2-0 away from home.

Though it would be a different story in their weekend fixture, which would end in a 4-0 defeat at home to Rutherglen Glencairn.

It has been a challenging start to life in the division for Ardrossan Winton Rovers after their promotion from the Second Division last season.

After an opening weekend draw, it was a pair of defeats for Gavin Friels' side this time around.

A home fixture against Arthurlie in midweek ended in a 4-2 loss, before a trip to Maybole on Saturday also ended in defeat, with the scoreline finishing 3-0 to the home side.

The latter was a first win of the season for Maybole, who followed up an opening weekend defeat with a 4-2 loss away to St Roch's in midweek before their win over Winton.

Meanwhile Kilbirnie Ladeside continued their positive start to the campaign despite a midweek loss at Rutherglen Glencairn who defeated the Garnock Valley side 4-2.

Colin Spence's men bounced straight back from the defeat on Saturday as they won 2-0 at home to newly promoted Vale of Clyde.

It was a challenging weekend for one of Spence's former sides in Irvine Meadow - despite picking up their first win since their relegation from the top division.

After a heavy opening game defeat, Meadow travelled to Renfrew in midweek and won the match 2-1.

Though they failed to follow up the positive result on Saturday as they succumbed to a 1-0 loss at home to Thorniewood United.

Into the Second Division and Muirkirk have maintained their magnificent start to the season - going 100 per cent in their opening three matches and topping the table.

After an opening weekend win, the East Ayrshire side picked up a pair of 4-2 victories - first at home to Lanark United in midweek before winning by the same scoreline away to Bonnyton Thistle on Saturday.

After an opening weekend defeat, and the aforementioned loss to Muirkirk, Bonnyton did get off the mark in midweek after a 0-0 draw away to Maryhill.

An Ayrshire side yet to get off the mark, however, is Craigmark Burntonians - who have had a torrid start to their campaign.

As well as losing their opening match, Craigmark were beaten 8-2 in midweek away to Whitletts Victoria - and then 5-1 at home to Maryhill on Saturday - and currently prop up the table.

Whitletts, on the other hand, have taken to the league well after their relegation, though dropped points for the first time on Saturday after a 4-2 defeat away to Lesmahagow.

In the Third Division, Dalry Thistle suffered a second defeat of the season in midweek after a tough 3-2 loss at home to Glasgow Perthshire.

However, the North Ayrshire side battled back on Saturday to pick up their first win of the season, beating Finnart 2-1 away from home.

Girvan also picked up their first win this week, after picking up a 2-1 victory away to Irvine Victoria - though they failed to add to the result as they were defeated 4-1 by Kilsyth Athletic on Saturday.

While the Vics, who lost their opening fixture as well, continued their torrid start to the season on Saturday with a heavy 7-0 loss away to Threave Rovers.

In an all Ayrshire tie in midweek, Lugar Boswell Thistle continued their winning form as they defeated Ardeer Thistle 2-1 at home.

Though the Jaggy Bunnets lost their 100 per cent record on Saturday in a 2-1 loss away to Glasgow Perthshire.

While Ardeer would get back to winning ways at the weekend when they handed Glasgow University a 2-0 loss.

Into the Fourth Division and Saltcoats Victoria continued to show that they will be a tough nut to crack this season.

After an opening weekend win Stevie Wilson's men played out a 1-1 draw with Kello Rovers in midweek.

However, their unbeaten run would end on Saturday after a tight 2-1 loss away to St Peter's.

It was the same story for Kello Rovers, who after a win and a draw to start the season fell to defeat on Saturday - losing 5-3 at home to East Kilbride Thistle.

While midweek saw Eglinton FC get their season underway, after their first fixture was postponed for reasons out with their control.

And it was worth the wait for the Kilwinning side who picked up a pair of victories to get their campaign start.

After defeating Easterhouse 4-2 in midweek, they followed the result up on Saturday with a 3-1 win away to Carluke Rovers to make it a perfect start thus far.
