Scott Brown's Ayr suffered a narrow loss to Premiership side Dundee United in an entertaining match at Tannadice.

The Honest Men put on a good showing against their opponents who gained promotion from the Championship last year.

However, a moment of quality from 18-year-old substitute Brandon Forbes meant that all three points from the Premier Sports Cup group stage match stayed in Dundee.

The home side had taken the lead in the 17th minute, when David Babunski saw his free-kick to the back post go all the way through.

Ayr responded in the second half with Marco Rus getting his first goal for the club in only his second appearance.

However, a moment of magic from Forbes from outside the box decided the entertaining match.

Ayr now sit in fourth place in Group B, three points behind Dundee United and Falkirk, although they have played one game less.

Two more matches are to come against Buckie Thistle and Stenhousemuir for the Honest Men to try and move onto the knockout phase of the competition.
