GLENBURN Miners Welfare have been crowned Ayrshire Premier League champions.
The Prestwick amateur side sealed the deal on Wednesday when they rounded off their season with a 4-0 win over last year's title winners Shortlees.
A Jordan Lusk strike and Steven Currie hat-trick was more than enough to secure all three points and meant Glenburn would round off the campaign top of the pile.
They beat out South Ayrshire rivals Annbank to the title by a single point after a title race which went right down to the wire.
Glenburn having silverware in hand was the perfect way to cap off what has been a tremendous season in Prestwick.
Putting in solid performances week on week, the club also reached an Ayrshire cup final - which they ironically lost 4-0 to Shortlees - as well as quarter finals of the Scottish and West of Scotland cups.
Manager Michael O’Connor commented: "The lads knew they didn't show up in the Ayrshire Cup final and wanted to put that right and they showed that from the first whistle.
"It was a brilliant feeling not just for us coaches but for the players, the committee, the whole club and the fans who come and support us every week.
"The lads have put in some effort this season and to take some silverware makes it all worthwhile for them.
"I'm not going to lie it's been a very long season for them but the effort and commitment they have given us has been something else so to finish it as league champions means everything to them."
While O'Connor, who previously played for the club, is now keen to see his side kick on and ensure this is the first trophy of many.
He added: "The club deserve this, it's been a long time coming. Even when I played I came up short on a few occasions but these lads gave us everything.
"There all in it together and as a young group - they're only going to get better.
"I'm sure the lads will kick on now, it's a young squad with a few old heads so they will keep them right."
The Glenburn boss was also keen to thank all those who made this successful season possible.
O'Connor continued: "I would just like to thank the committee, the work they put in behind the scenes is what makes this club.
"The travelling support have been all over the country this season and they travel in numbers so to them - we thank you.
"'Mon the Miners."
