TROON 2

CLYDEBANK 0

DOMINANT Troon racked up their first league victory as they swept aside a strong Clydebank team who are without a win following a disappointing start to the season.

It was the perfect way for Jonnie Baillie’s team to bounce back following the surprise 5-1 home demolition at the hands of local rivals Whitletts Victoria in the second round of the West Region Sectional League Cup five days earlier.

Now they will be looking to build on this victory.

In 14 minutes the home side were awarded a penalty-kick and former Ayr United and Hearts ace Ryan Stevenson netted from the spot to hand them the lead.

However Bankies came back into the match more after this with their best effort before the break coming through Kyle Munro’s cross-cum-shot.

Then nine minutes after the break, Troon doubled their advantage when Dylan Pooler outstripped the defence to slip the ball under the advancing goalie and into the net.

Boss Jonny Baillie said: “I’m delighted with the result. We were disappointed to lose the cup tie but asked for a reaction. They challenged themselves and were great on Saturday. We wanted to improve our home league form and have now picked up four points from the opening two league matches.”

Meanwhile Troon were drawn at home to Maryhill in the opening round of the Ardagh Group West of Scotland Cup.

Whitletts Victoria will take on Benburb away, while Annbank United are away to Clydebank. Craigmark Burtonians host McBookie Championship rivals Dalry Thistle and there will be another all-Ayrshire derby as Girvan have home advantage against higher league rivals Cumnock.
