Ardagh Group West of Scotland Cup Quarter-Final
TROON 0
BEITH 3
MOST believed this tie ould be a close contest but on the day the scoreline definitely does not lie, with an improvised Beith side rarely troubled over the 90 minutes.
Beith started positively and good moves early doors saw efforts from Darren Christie, Nicky Docherty and Joe Bradley go close.
The visitors continued to look the more dangerous and turned their superiority into a goal in 31 minutes. Young striker Peter Haggarty got one on one with Troon defender Tony Murphy in a chase for a through ball and his pace won him possession before he slid the ball home. Troon tried to respond but Ross McCrea and Ryan Stevenson shot wide. Beith were back on the offensive after the restart and quickly doubled their advantage when Darren Christie found Peter Haggarty in the box for the striker to head home. McLaughlin also went close with a free-kick into the side net. Haggarty almost claimed a hat trick in a quick attack when he skinned Troon defender McCreadie and bore in on goal but the hosts were saved by a good block by keeper Johnstone.
Troon plugged away with a Keenan free-kick causing concern but his effort went over the bar. The contest was definitely ended a few minutes from time when Joe Bradley strode through and netted. Troon will now have to focus on winning some points from their remaining league fixtures to eliminate the threat of relegation. TROON: Johnstone, Murphy, Sherrie, Keenan, McCreadie, Chatham, Maley, McCrea, Stevenson, Pooler, Martin. Subs: Clark, McCloy, Crawford, Fulton, Strachan
