THE bustling Sweet Jane Bakehouse in Troon has been granted retrospective planning permission for a change of use.
The bakery, which operates popular spots in Dennistoun and Kilmarnock, opened up in South Ayrshire earlier this year.
However, the business failed to realise that planning permission was needed for its alterations.
The bakery, through Thomson Hunter Associates, applied to South Ayrshire Council for a change of use from a shop to a café and shop.
Planning documents state that the applicant was "unaware" that a planning application was required for the West Portland Street premises.
The retrospective application has now been scrutinised by the council's planning officers, and the bakery has been given the green light to continue.
The café area includes seating for 20, with a separate serving and food prep area.
The bakery currently opens 9am until 4pm seven days a week, and employs five staff members working on a shift rota.
Decision documents state: "It is noted that the proposals include an ancillary takeaway.
"However, this is primarily limited to baked goods, including bread and cakes, as the operation of the premises is limited to enclosed cooking methods only.
"On this basis, the principle of the development is acceptable, and it is considered that the proposal will not adversely affect the vitality or viability of Troon town centre."
