AN AYR hairdresser is hoping to prove she’s a cut above the rest after being selected for a national project.
Chelsea Dunlop, who owns Muse Hair Studio on the Sandgate, has been selected as one of 12 to be part of Team Scotland for a fellowship with British Hairdressing.
The 31-year-old, who only opened her salon two years ago, admits she didn’t expect to be accepted.
She said: “I applied for the fellowship about a month ago, and I had to send a portfolio, statement, resume and a video explaining why I’d be good for the project.
“I opened my salon two years ago this month, and I felt being part of this would be a good addition to the business.
“I didn’t expect to have a chance so didn’t even tell people about it, so when I found out I was absolutely delighted.”
As part of the project, Chelsea will receive expert mentoring and get involved in some of the UK’s biggest hair events.
She said: “It starts in January and runs throughout the year, and our mentor will be looking after the team of 12.
“The best hairdressers in Scotland have been chosen to give us more opportunities like big hair shows and more photographic work.
“I’ve got two assistants in the salon so hopefully they will really benefit from it down the line as well.
“I started in salons when I was 15 and this is the biggest opportunity I have had so far and will open a lot of doors.”
Chelsea hopes the fellowship can provide a big boost to her business, as she eyes up expansion in Ayr.
She added: “I would love to expand the Ayr salon and get into the training side of things as well with apprentices.
“We have been really busy since we opened a few years ago, which is fantastic because there are so many salons in Ayr now.
“We’ve come on leaps and bounds in such a short space of time, and hopefully this will only help push us on even further.”
