TRUMP Turnberry’s Ailsa course has been named ‘Scotland’s Best Golf Course’ at a worldwide awards ceremony.

The course in South Ayrshire triumphed at the 2024 World Golf Awards, topping a world-class shortlist from across the country.

The legendary Ayrshire layout was revealed as the winner at a ceremony in Madeira, attended by delegates from the biggest names in the golf industry.

The Ailsa boasts almost 120 years of history - hosting four Open Championships in 1977, 1986, 1994 and 2009 – and with it some of the most famous holes in the game of golf.

The par-71 layout is currently closed for further enhancements and is set to fully reopen in spring 2025.

In October, the resort unveiled plans to move the seventh green and relocate the eighth tee boxes to create a straighter fairway, alongside broader changes across the other 16 holes.

Martin Ebert, who elevated the Ailsa to new heights when he redesigned the entire layout between 2014 and 2016, was invited back to the resort to oversee the latest developments.

A host of other world-renowned layouts were in the running to be pronounced Scotland’s finest, including fellow Open Championship venue Royal Troon.

Nic Oldham, general manager at Trump Turnberry, said: “With stunning views and start-to-finish drama, the Ailsa is quite rightly regarded as one of the best golf courses in the world.

“As befits the Home of Golf, Scotland has no shortage of iconic and historic courses, so to be named the nation’s best is an incredible feat.

"We would like to thank the World Golf Awards and everyone who voted for the Ailsa and are working with Martin Ebert again to open an even better version of this storied course next year.”

Meanwhile, Turnberry was also named ‘World’s Best Golf Hotel’ ahead of an internationally renowned shortlist spanning five continents.

Its five-star hotel features a range of opulent rooms and suites for golfers, couples and families.

The resort is home to over 200 rooms and suites in total, all within easy walking distance of all three golf courses.

Mr Oldham added: “We are proud to offer 45 holes of exceptional golf, but we also want Turnberry to be the golf resort that has everything.

“Our hotel has accommodation for groups of all sizes and three very different restaurants for guests to choose from – and with other amenities like the Spa and Turnberry Adventures, everything you could ask for from a golf break is ready for you here.”
