TWO Ayr teachers have braved the shave to raise a fantastic sum of money for Children in Need.

Nick Wilde and Ross Duncan, PE teachers at Belmont Academy, agreed to have their hair trimmed as the climax of a week of fundraising activities at the school.

Pupils at the school were kept busy with a soak the teacher event, bake sales, a dress down day and even a sixth years versus staff football match.

On Friday, November 15, the two teachers rounded off the week of charitable efforts by shaving their heads for the good cause.

Nick previously told the Advertiser: "Ross and I offered to shave our heads if we hit the original £500 target, and the kids have smashed through that.

"It's maybe more daft than brave, but we didn't want to say no to the kids when they came up with the idea.

"We're trying to get in touch with a few barbers to do it, but if not then it will have to be one of our fellow staff.

Pupils managed to raise a fantastic £2,100 across the week, and £900 towards the haircut effort of the two teachers.

Nick explained: "We organised to have our heads shaved in the assembly hall and about 300 kids turned up to watch.

"Our original target for the head shave was £500, and they didn't quite reach £1,000 for me to get the Ronaldo-style hairdo.

"It was a fantastic week all round topped off with the staff and pupils football match which the staff won.

"I went for a one all over and Ross was slightly longer with a two, and one of the other PE teachers did the honours.

"The kids are loving it and we are constantly getting called baldy, but it's all part of the fun and for a good cause."
