STAFF at a Symington care home are celebrating after being crowned at a national awards ceremony.

Care services from across the country were present at the 20th annual National Care Awards in Glasgow earlier this month.

Hosted by Scottish Care, the prestigious event celebrates exceptional dedication and outstanding standards throughout the nation.

Sara-Louise Gregor and Leighann Bell, staff members at Townend Care Home, were thrilled to receive the ‘Meaningful Activity’ award after standing out in a highly competitive field.

Their dedication to promoting independence and creating meaningful opportunities for residents has made a lasting impact on the lives of those they care for.

Townend Care Home is a specialised 17-bed facility that provides high-quality care for adults with learning difficulties.

The award recognised Sara-Louise and Leighann for going above and beyond in their roles, ensuring that residents not only maintain their independence but are also engaged in activities that promote personal fulfilment and well-being.

Rory Wood, home manager, praised the pair for their efforts and said all of the staff were on a high.

He said: "Sara-Louise and Leighann are our activity coordinators, so they make sure there's always something going on for our residents.

"They were surprised to be recognised, and we're all absolutely buzzing and it's a great team effort.

"Residents do things like going on activity bikes, baking groups, pantomimes, swimming, musicians, pet therapy and much more.

"We try and incorporate things to promote independence, and some residents even work alongside our in-house maintenance team riding on mowers.

"We have 17 residents and around 30 staff, and every one of them is so happy that the two ladies and Townend were recognised at such a prestigious ceremony."
