TALENTED athletes from an Ayr martial arts school showed what they are capable of at the Scottish Cup of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 2024.
Musashi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy achieved an incredible milestone at the tournament held at Ravenscraig Arena in Motherwell.
As a relatively new team, having only been established for two years, Musashi entered the tournament as underdogs.
With some competitors having trained for less than a year, expectations were modest - but the results were extraordinary.
The team took home seven golds, one silver, and one bronze, earning the title of Best Academy Overall out of 45 academies competing.
The achievement is all the more remarkable considering the calibre of teams involved, including some of the biggest teams in Scottish Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Every gold medal was won by white belts, showcasing the team’s dedication and the effectiveness of their training.
One of the standout moments of the tournament came when one of Musashi’s smaller competitors triumphed in the openweight division, taking on and dominating much larger opponents with a brave and inspiring performance that lifted the entire team.
Coaches Chris Reid and Damien Dawson said they were beyond proud of their team - not just the competitors, but everyone who has contributed to the academy’s growth over the past two years.
They said: “We are all one team. We need each other to grow and achieve these results, and this success belongs to all of us.”
Musashi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy’s incredible journey proves that with determination, teamwork, and heart, even the underdogs can rise to the top.
