THE group behind plans to reopen the iconic former Broadway Cinema in Prestwick have released their first podcast.

Entitled 'How to (Re)open a Cinema’, it focuses on the project’s journey and what it takes to bring back a building that is entirely unique, has been closed to the public for 21 years, and has not been a cinema for almost half a century.

The podcast hosts are Cliff Baillie, executive advisor of cinema operations, and Kyle Macfarlane, project development officer, of the charity Friends of the Broadway Prestwick.

The podcast can be found on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Amazon Music, as well as the charity’s official website.

The first episode is titled ‘Introducing the Broadway’ and covers the history of the cinema itself, from its inception to the present day.

New episodes will be released regularly and will feature guest appearances from other volunteers of the project, members of the community, and contacts within the cinema industry and world of heritage preservation.

The Broadway is one of the greatest surviving examples of a golden age Art Deco cinema in Scotland.

From opening in 1935 to closing in 1976, and surviving bingo, amusements, squash courts, and more, the Broadway is adored by, and now owned by the community that it served, and will serve again in the future.

The building has had a varied and fascinating history and looks to have a bright and promising future ahead.

Co-host of the podcast Kyle said: “Cliff and I are thrilled to finally release the podcast after months of preparation.

"We hope it will be an engaging and entertaining way to learn more about the Broadway’s past, present, and future.

"Our project is growing at an ever-increasing rate, and it has been a long road so far.

"For others wondering how they might start similar projects, we hope our experiences can prove helpful, and that we can share some behind-the-scenes insights that may inspire and support those also passionate about preserving our nation’s heritage and empowering their communities.”

The fundraising for the Broadway continues in the coming months with two movie showings at Prestwick Academy.

The first will be The Polar Express in Pyjamas, where film lovers are encouraged to "coorie in with your cosiest pyjamas and blankets and start the festive season in style with all the family".

The film will be screened at the academy on Saturday, November 23 from 6.30-8.30pm.

Their big festive fundraiser at the academy will be the showing of the classic It's A Wonderful Life on Saturday, December 21.
