Transport Secretary Alistair Darling visited Prestwick in November 2004 to view progress on the new air traffic control centre being built there. He was accompanied by local politicians on the visit.
Troon Thistle Under 12s got a helping hand from Exel in November 2004. The newly kitted-out boys’ team are pictured with team manager Alan Gordon and Exel representative Ray Jefferies.
Pupils at Prestwick's Kingcase Primary School were treated to a circus trip with a difference in 2004. The Science Circus - an education outreach initiative from the Glasgow Science Centre - paid a special visit. Gemma Rogerson and Hazel Jamieson were keen to try out an experiment.

Ryanair celebrated the launch of its brand-new route from Glasgow Prestwick to Düsseldorf in November 2004. And a group of senior pupils from Ayr’s Wellington School checked in for the very first flight. The six pupils and two teachers were flying to the German city as part of their modern languages course.
