A GIRVAN football club has been mentioned in the Scottish Parliament after being handed a £150,000 funding boost.
Girvan YFC has been awarded the funding by sportscotland’s Sport Facilities Fund towards upgrading its sports pavilion to include inclusive changing facilities.
With a new 3G pitch being installed at the site which will be used by the football club but also local rugby and athletics club, the work will allow for increased use of the pitch.
The plans will increase the amount of changing rooms and also make them, and the toilets, accessible and more inclusive.
Elena Whitham, MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley, lodged a motion at Holyrood to recognise the significance of the award.
It read: "That the Parliament applauds Girvan Youth Football Club on being awarded £150,000 from sportscotland through its Facility Fund; understands that this money will be used to upgrade the club’s sports pavilion to include inclusive changing and toilet facilities; notes that this upgrade will also benefit other groups and clubs in the community who use the facilities; recognises the sportscotland funding is for rural communities, areas of deprivation and for projects designed to make sport more accessible and inclusive; congratulates Girvan Youth Football Club for benefitting members of the community, and wishes the club the very best for the future."
David Girvan of Girvan YFC said: “Girvan Youth Football Club greatly appreciate the funding from sportscotland, this will help us towards our goal to refurbish and extend the pavilion.
“A modern fit for purpose pavilion will benefit not only Girvan Youth Football Club but other local charities and sporting groups.”
