MORE than 2,300 thirsty drinkers descended on Troon to attend the Ayrshire Real Ale Festival - raising thousands of pounds for charity in the process.

The event was organised by the Ayrshire and Wigtownshire branch of CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale.

The festival, which was the 23rd one organised by the local CAMRA branch, is now the largest cask ale festival in Scotland.

With a choice of over 150 real ales and 20 real ciders from around the UK, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

This year, the CAMRA branch chose Ayrshire Cancer Support as their nominated charity and an amazing sum of £3,039.04 was raised via collecting cans, the sale of raffle tickets and donations via unused money left on the festival’s beer token cards.

A presentation to Ayrshire Cancer Support took place at the Twa Dugs in West Kilbride on Saturday, October 19.

Next year’s Ayrshire Real Ale Festival will be held from October 2-4 in Troon Concert Hall.
