A seal pup named Polar was saved by a quick-thinking passer-by after being washed up on Troon beach in 2004. The new-born was found on the brink of death and crying for his mother high up on the sand. It’s believed he had been washed off his Hebridean isle home in driving wind all the way to Ayrshire.
Kids at Ayr’s Carnegie Library were transported to another world in October 2004 when they took part in a Lord of the Rings themed event.
South Ayrshire’s Tristan Welch of Glenapp Castle, Ballantrae was proud to be recognised in the Who’s Who of Chefs in 2004. The guide listed 3,000 of the world’s finest culinary experts.
Girvan Academy pupil Tom Moffat enjoyed an opportunity-of-a-lifetime trip to NASA International Space School in Houston, Texas.
A retired Ayr couple who won free power for a year for their home said: “We’re shocked!” Delighted former council workers Eleanor and John Scullion had entered a draw at the South Ayrshire Environment Fair. They planned to treat themselves to a bowling holiday in Spain with the cash their prize would save them.
Staff and pupils at Glenburn Primary bade a fond farewell to school janitor Jim McBurnie, who retired in October 2004.
