FAMED Prestwick-raised artist Peter Howson has donated two paintings to help raise funds for the town's reborn Broadway Cinema.

The generous donation has allowed the charity Friends of the Broadway to launch a new eBay account to help their fundraising efforts.

And they are now looking for support from the local community by urging them to donate items which can then be sold to boost their funds.

The Broadway belongs to the community of Prestwick after the successful purchase of the building in April 2024 with a grant from the Scottish Land Fund and financial support from South Ayrshire Council.

The Waverley Gallery in Prestwick kindly framed the two Howson paintings for the charity free of charge.

Continuous fundraising is essential to the success of the project to bring the Broadway back to life at the heart of Prestwick as a cinema and community events hub.

This new eBay account can help raise funds and support the bigger fundraising applications.

The Broadway CinemaFriends of the Broadway would like to invite the community to have a look in their attics, sheds and garages to donate items which could help generate more funds.

Items most sought after include hi-fi equipment, speakers and audio kit, VCRs , binoculars, video games and consoles to name but a few.

A full list of items is available on the charity’s website at friendsofthebroadwayprestwick.com.

For an easy way to donate, the charity has also announced their next Open Day in the Broadway.

On Saturday, October 26, the cinema’s foyer will open from 10am to 4pm, for a chance to deliver any chosen items and learn more about the Broadway’s future.

There will also be other flexible ways to donate including home collections for those that cannot make it in-person to the Open Day. This is a unique way for the community to help support the Broadway and be part of the journey.

Professor Guy Walker, chair of Friends of the Broadway Prestwick, said: “We are very grateful to Peter Howson for the generous donation which has allowed us to raise much needed funds to support our running costs.

"We would love the community to get involved and donate any suitable items they may have at home which we could help raise essential funds.

"It is a unique opportunity to be part of the legacy of re-opening the Broadway.”
