A MAJOR NATO exercise is set to get under way on Monday, that will see warships and submarines in the waters off the east and west coasts of Scotland.
Running until Sunday, October 27, Exercise Strike Warrior will also involve 35 aircraft and around 2,000 armed forces personnel.
The UK-led exercise will bring together ten allied nations and will include the Carrier Support Group (CSG), which is led by Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales.
Exercise Strike Warrior provide the UK Armed Forces with an opportunity to join partner nations from across NATO to practice using the latest equipment and technologies in realistic military scenarios.
The 10 NATO nations participating in Exercise Strike Warrior 24 are Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, and United States.
Thirteen naval units including frigates, destroyers, tankers, and submarines from the ten allied nations will be participating around the Scottish Coast.
A total of 35 aircraft will take part in the exercise with some of them operating from HMS Gannet at Prestwick.
There will be no GPS denial operations during Strike Warrior 24.
Planned by Joint Training and Exercise Staff (JTEPS), the exercise will be coordinated and controlled from HM Naval Base Portsmouth.
