MSP SHARON Dowey paid a visit to Ayrshire College to see third-year plumbing apprentices undertaking an additional qualification in heat pumps.

The South Scotland MSP praised the work of the college’s Renewables Centre, based at Ayr Campus, and enjoyed meeting the apprentices, who showcased their impressive knowledge of the industry and commitment to the course.

The apprentices gave an engaging and comprehensive demonstration of the work they do relating to the installation and maintenance of air source heat pumps.

They are able to undertake this additional learning thanks to funding obtained through Energy Savings Trust secured via the Energy Skills Partnership.

The MSP said: “It was a real pleasure to visit Ayrshire College again and have the opportunity to meet with the apprentices and learn more about what they do.

"It was very interesting and enjoyable to hear from the apprentices directly about the work they are undertaking in this qualification, what they are learning, the skills they are being equipped with and how they plan to continue utilising what they have learned at the college going forward.

“Thank you to all of those who took the time out of their busy schedules to meet with me and show me around the fantastic Renewables Centre based at the Ayr Campus.

"I look forward to continuing to engage regularly with the college and am always highly impressed by the work they do and how they continue to contribute so significantly to Ayrshire and beyond."
