THE UK Coastguard has suspended helicopter landings at hospitals across Ayrshire.
Bristow, who operate search and rescue for the Coastguard, suspended landings across the country following the death of a woman in Devon in 2022.
The 87-year-old died after being blown over by a helicopter landing at Derriford Hospital, and regulatory bodies have now implemented new regulations.
A report by the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) and new regulations from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) say that 'safe zones' are now needed for helicopter landings to protect the public from 'downwash'.
Landings take place at University Hospital Ayr, and have taken place in the past at University Hospital Crosshouse and Arran War Memorial Hospital.
Nicola Graham, director of infrastructure and support services at NHS Ayrshire and Arran, said: “NHS Ayrshire and Arran have been made aware of the situation and are currently working with partners to review and take actions as appropriate.”
A spokesperson for Bristow said: "Management of these sites is the legal responsibility of the NHS trusts.
"We continue to work with all NHS trusts to ensure continued safe operations within CAA guidelines at all sites.”
