THE bustling Sweet Jane Bakehouse in Troon has lodged retrospective planning permission for a change of use.

The bakery, which operates popular spots in Dennistoun and Kilmarnock, opened up in South Ayrshire earlier this year.

However, the business failed to realise that planning permission was needed for its alterations.

The bakery, through Thomson Hunter Associates, has applied to South Ayrshire Council for a change of use from a shop to a café and shop.

Planning documents state that the applicant was "unaware" that a planning application was required for the West Portland Street premises.

The retrospective application will now be scrutinised by the council's planning officers.

The café area includes seating for 20, with a separate serving and food prep area.

The bakery currently opens 9am until 4pm seven days a week, and employs five staff members working on a shift rota.

The full application can be viewed on South Ayrshire Council's planning portal with reference 24/00630/APP.
