A SERIOUS assault accused is said to have repeatedly punched a man in Ayr causing him severe injuries.
Jack Butterworth pleaded not guilty to the indictment charge when he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.
The 25-year-old is alleged to have attacked the man 'while acting with another' on December 22, 2022 in Arthur Street.
The Crown's indictment states Butterworth repeatedly punched the alleged victim to the head and caused him to fall to the ground to his severe injury.
He faces a charge of later failing to appear in court 'having been given due notice to appear' while indicted for the allegations.
Defence solicitor Simon Brown said his client pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault, but guilty to failing to turn up in court when he appeared at a pre-trial first diet hearing on October 2.
Mr Brown invited Sheriff Shirley Foran to defer sentence on Butterworth's second charge, with the assault case due to call again next year.
Bail was continued for Butterworth, of Fenwickland Avenue, Ayr, and he will face the allegations again at a later date.
