THE National Trust for Scotland has been busy conjuring up some creepy and creative events as it prepares for spooky season at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.
The museum dedicated to Scotland’s national bard, cared for by the conservation charity, has prepared a series of activities throughout October in preparation for Halloween.
Ayrshire’s flagship museum, featuring more than 5,000 artefacts from Burns’ expansive works, will play host to a variety of eerie and exciting events suitable for all the family.
This year’s Halloween events include:
Ghastly Gardens Alloween Trail (October 12 – 31)
Brave enough to conquer the Ghastly Gardens Alloween trail? Purchase the ghastly gardens trail sheet from the main museum admissions desk and follow the map to solve the creepy clues. Solve the clues and share the secret phrase with Trust’s team to claim a prize.
Trail sheets cost £3 and can be purchased from the museum admissions desk. The trail will take place outdoors, please dress suitably for the weather. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. One prize per trail sheet.
Magic School with Fabulous Fraser (October 14)
Join the amazing Fabulous Fraser for an unforgettable workshop bursting with magic, balloon artistry, and circus skills. This workshop is perfect for kids aged six and up, with plenty of opportunities to get hands-on and learn some exciting new tricks.
As a celebrated performer and multi-award-winning magician, Fraser brings his unique blend of energy, creativity, and interactive fun to every session.
Having won the title of Scottish Children’s Magician of the Year, Fraser knows just how to captivate audiences of all ages.
Wizard School (October 15 – 16)
Get ready for a magical adventure as Madam Hoot returns for some more magical classes at her Wizard School, where young ones will learn spells, potions, and enchantments.
Drop off budding wizards for a fully supervised session at Wizard School, where they will meet real live owls, make wands, and learn about potions and charms in four magical lessons!
Wizards will leave with a 6x4 photo with their favourite owl, a wand, and a magical fear charm.
The Science of Slime workshop (October 17)
Discover the world of slime, where science and magic collide, in these hands-on, exciting experiments with the Wild Science Wizards.
Join the Wizards for an electrifying adventure filled with bubbling beakers, vibrant potions, and thrilling hands-on experiments that will leave children in awe.
The wizards will bring the wonders of science to life with mind-blowing demonstrations, from mini explosions to gooey creations, ensuring fun for all ages. Youngsters can mix, stretch, and shape their own glittering, squishy slimey masterpieces to take home.
Mad Nutty Professor Workshops (October 18)
Explore the world of science with a fizz, pop and a bang at the ‘Mad Nutty Professor’ Halloween Science Workshop.
Get ready for a thrilling experience full of science and spookiness with a series of hands-on and visual science experiments, that will amaze and entertain kids of all ages.
Budding young scientists can participate in eerie experiments like creating a witch's cauldron, brewing mysterious potions, and summoning spooky fog or mist.
Watch in awe as dry ice transforms ordinary scenes into something straight out of a Halloween tale.
The Best Laid Scheme o’ Mice and Murder – Murder Mystery at Burns Cottage (October 31)
For one night, Burns Cottage transforms into the 'Fiddle Pub' Inn, where visitors will be entertained with an enthralling tale that follows Dugray Burns III, a rich gentleman, who has reserved the pub's function room for a private Burns Supper.
But tragedy strikes as a direct descendant of Robert Burns is found dead. Follow the drama as the murder suspects visit each table for questioning, in what is sure to be an unforgettable night with a memorable story.
Suitable for ages 10 and over, each tickets includes a welcome drink, a half bottle of wine per person (adults only), and a Burns Supper worthy of the evening’s affluent host, Dugray.
