There was plenty to sing about in Barrhill back in 2014 as children welcomed the official opening of their new look primary school after a £1.3million year-long upgrade. These pupils were preparing to sing at the ceremony.
Move over Gretna Green – South Ayrshire was fast becoming the new destination for runaway couples in 2014. Fay and Graham Cowan, owners of five-star Glenapp Castle, said they had been booked for seven elopements that year.
Singer Joan Armatrading took to the stage of Ayr’s Gaiety Theatre in October 2014. There were rumours that it could be the Love and Affection writer’s last tour.
Students from local theatre school Razzamataz sang, danced and acted in their best onesies and snuggly pyjamas to raise money for a new charity to help young performers through college. The school launched the Future Fund charity to help finance a scholarship to train at a performing arts college in October 2014.
A painting of Alex Salmond raised £51,500 for Prestwick’s CLIC Sargent holiday home. Artist Gerard Burns, who created the piece, headed to Malcom Sargent House in October to present a cheque along with the First Minister.
As part of south Ayrshire Council’s Cultural Rucksack Programme, the P5-7 pupils of Sacred Heart Primary school in Girvan were treated to a workshop on African drumming in October 2014.
