TWO community sports facilities in South Ayrshire are set to benefit from a fresh funding boost of more than £270,000.
Sportscotland’s Sport Facilities Fund is allocating money to local partners, including Troon Water Sports Centre and Girvan Youth Football Club.
The projects are among 10 across Scotland to receive investment from the organisation to develop their facilities or create a new home for sport and physical activity.
A new water sports hub at Barassie Beach in Troon will receive £121,800 towards building costs, half of the total cost.
The hub will provide a home for a range of sports with a number of well supported water sports clubs already in the area.
The facility will provide sporting opportunities such as kite surfing, stand up paddle boarding, open water lessons and canoeing.
The hub will also host fitness and wellbeing classes and provide water safety courses while cycling and active travel will be catered for through a bike repair shop and bike storage.
Harry Risk, Troon Water Sports Centre secretary, said: “Receiving this funding from sportscotland will allow us now to progress the project to the final design and construction phase.
"We now have full planning permission, community asset transfer of the site and a 50-year lease in place with South Ayrshire Council. We plan to be opened in summer 2025.”
Girvan YFC have been awarded £150,000 towards upgrading its sports pavilion to include inclusive changing facilities.
With a new 3G pitch being installed at the site which will be used by the football club but also local rugby and athletics club, the work will allow for increased use of the pitch.
The plans will increase the amount of changing rooms and also make them, and the toilets, accessible and more inclusive.
David Girvan of Girvan YFC said: “Girvan Youth Football Club greatly appreciate the funding from sportscotland, this will help us towards our goal to refurbish and extend the pavilion.
“A modern fit for purpose pavilion will benefit not only Girvan Youth Football Club but other local charities and sporting groups.”
Forbes Dunlop, chief executive of sportscotland, said: “Both of these projects in South Ayrshire have demonstrated real commitment to ensuring that more people in the area will have an opportunity to become physically active and connected to their local community."
