AN AYR rapist has been jailed for more than five years after a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl.

Sean Robertson appeared for sentencing at the High Court sitting in Kilmarnock last week after he was convicted earlier this year of one of two indictment charges in relation to separate incidents.

The 20-year-old attacked a young female victim when he was aged 18 at a property in Ayr in February 2022.

Court papers stated that Robertson, of Nelson Place in the Braehead area of the town, kissed the youth, made sexualised remarks towards her and pushed her onto a bed.

He then exposed himself to the girl, touched her in private areas, and performed sex acts on her before raping her and causing her injury.

As he appeared in the dock at Kilmarnock on Thursday, September 19, Robertson was handed a custodial sentence for the offence.

He had also been accused of raping a different young girl at the same address around six months earlier, however, jurors cleared him of that allegation.

A judge sentenced Robertson to a total of five years and three months imprisonment, with the jail term backdated to when he was first remanded in custody on the matter on August 16 this year.

The Ayr man was also placed on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period of time, and will now be liable to comply with the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
