AYR Racecourse was packed with punters in their finest gladrags over the weekend as the Gold Cup Festival returned in style.

Thousands attended the venue for this year's event, as 20/1 shot Lethal Levi set a new course record time to take home the top prize on Saturday.

The five-year-old, ridden by Clifford Lee, led home a remarkable one-two-three for trainer Karl Burke, who watched from home as he landed the 1994 and 1998 renewals of the £180,000 heritage handicap.

Lee said: “Even when I saw the Silver Cup earlier on I wasn’t bothered about being drawn in stall 20.

“It’s a great result for the yard and this horse has had a great year. He’s still improving and is very speedy.”
