CELEBRATIONS were held to mark the six years of service from a Girl Guide County Commissioner Team before new volunteers take on their roles.
The workers from Girlguiding Ayrshire South County saw Rainbow, Brownie, Guide and Ranger leaders from the area gather at the Carlton Hotel in Prestwick on September 13 to look back on the team’s achievements, events, and trips.
Outgoing county commissioner Fiona Robertson, and assistant county commissioners Jackie Bryan and Marion Harvey were highlighted at the event.
Elaine Rough, Scottish chief commissioner said: “What an achievement in developing your county and taking it through Covid and beyond.
"You have done a great job and we deeply appreciate your energy and commitment to Guiding in Ayrshire South.
“We just want to acknowledge the warm and supportive leadership that Fiona, and her two assistants Jackie and Marion have provided to their county, and all of us from the Scottish Chief Commissioner team send the ladies their best wishes for the future.”
Fellow volunteers shared anecdotes and messages of gratitude for the positive impact that the trio have made to the county during their term.
However, the evening ended with a surprise for Fiona as she was presented with the prestigious Scottish Chief Commissioner's Award.
The new County Commissioner team is made up of Elin Marsh, Sharon Adams and Linsey Latter who are now officially in post.
The team’s new assistant community commissioner, Sharon Adams, was also honoured that night with a Good Service Award.
Earlier this year she piloted a summer club every Thursday of the holidays at their county campsite, Nether Auchendrane.
County secretary and Mauchline Leader, Annette Milton, said: “Perhaps we sometimes forget that as well as all the meetings to attend, events to organise, grants to be applied for and planning to be done as County Commissioner and Asst County Commissioners, all three ladies still had their own units to run as well.”
