(Image: Newsquest) The British boxing fraternity turned out in force at a sportsmans lunch at Ayr Racecourse in September 2004 in honour of Tarbolton’s former British and Commonwealth featherweight champion Evan Armstrong. He was pictured with members of his family and the Lonsdale Belt.

(Image: Newsquest) A special civic reception was held by South Ayrshire Council to recognise the success of Belmont Academy pupils in the 2004 National Youth Parliament Competition. Head Teacher Alan Moir is pictured with parent James Stewart hard at work on a challenge.

(Image: Newsquest) Troon councillor Peter Convery compared the blanket of pigeon excrement covering the pavement beneath a railway bridge to black ice in 2004. He had been battling with the problem of birds congregating under the railway bridge on St Meddans Street for a number of years.

Scottish Transport Minister Nicol Stephen visited Ayrshire to inspect a £570,000 package of improvements to the Prestwick Airport runway. Mr Stephen, right, was pictured with Councillor Bobby Campbell, Councillor Andy Hill and Glasgow Prestwick Executive Chairman Phil Walker.
