A MAN who allegedly knocked another male unconscious in an Ayr music venue has claimed that he acted in self defence.

Jason Scobie pleaded not guilty to two charges of assault, with one to injury and danger of life, when he appeared for a pre-trial hearing at Ayr Sheriff Court.

The 28-year-old is said to have pushed a man on the body before repeatedly knocking him to the ground while in Venue 38, on Carrick Street, on April 9 last year.

Court papers state he then pinned the alleged victim to the ground, headbutted him and punched him on the head, causing him to lose consciousness.

It is claimed that the alleged offence was committed 'to his injury and danger of his life'.

Mr Scobie faces a second charge of allegedly assaulting another unknown male, punching him on the head and causing him to fall to the ground.

The Crown's indictment states both incidents happened while the accused was subject to a bail order granted at Ayr Sheriff Court in March 2022.

Defence solicitor Ian Gillies said his denied the allegations, and lodged a special defence of self defence for both charges.

He added that the defence was fully prepared for trial, which is set for later in the year.

Bail was continued for Mr Scobie and he will return to court at a later date.
