Waterbombs were unleashed on a Sunday School teacher in Prestwick in September 2014 for an alternative ice-bucket challenge. Children from Prestwick South Church raised £50 for the Ayrshire Hospice.

Ayr firefighters became car wash heroes in September 2014 after leaving queues of motors gleaming. The team at Ayr Fire Station rolled up their sleeves and raised £1,600 for The Firefighters Charity.

Prestwick man Stephen Mackie, 45, helped raise more than £80,000 for the Help the Hospices charity in September 2014. The bank manager took part in a charity climb of Ben Nevis with 88 of his colleagues.

Troon butchers Charles Duncan lifted a gold award in Scotland’s Year of the Haggis competition. We Hae Meat, of Girvan, collected the silver award.

Hundreds of school pupils took part in the annual Maidens Mile in September 2014. Maidens Primary School pupils from P1 to P7 all turned out for the event, with certificates handed out on completion.
