Football-loving business people are being invited to take a behind-the-scenes look at Ayr United’s new £3m North Stand.

Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce has arranged for members to meet for its monthly Connect networking event at Somerset Park with the opportunity to see the recently opened stand.

Platinum Plus and Gold members of the leading business organisation were given an exclusive visit at the end of last month and this rare opportunity is now being extended to all members.

Chamber CEO Claire Baird said: “We like to give members a variety of venues for our Connect events and this is definitely one of the most interesting. The members who joined us for a private peek were very impressed.

“We heard from David Smith and Graeme Mathie about the club’s journey so far and their vision on and off the pitch. The development of the North Stand has helped to modernise the park and enhances the whole matchday experience.

“The stand is not just a physical structure, but a legacy for the fans, wider community and a symbol of the club’s ambition.”

A friendly against last season’s Premiership champions Celtic was the curtain-raiser for the new stand with more than 9,000 attending the game.

Club chairman David Smith said: “Everyone was able to take a look around and see what we have done.

“The new stand provides seating for more than 700 and offers hospitality for 220. We have kept the old terracing and the stand is half terrace and half seating. It’s also the first time it’s had a roof on.”

David, who is also managing director of Ashleigh Building, is keen to open the facilities to the wider business community.

United have had an exciting start to the new season in the Championship, with four victories on the bounce and remain unbeaten.

The event is on Friday, September 19. For bookings and further information, visit https://www.ayrshire-chamber.org/events/chamber-events.
