Who can you spot in these Advertiser pics from 20 years ago?
Six young people took the route to a skilled trade in September 2004 after embarking on apprenticeships with South Ayrshire Council. The local authority had 24 apprentices at the time, who were pictured with Counciil Leader Andy Hill.
Youngsters at Girvan’s Sacred Heart Primary School proved their commitment to their school community at the school’s first ever council elections in 2004, under head teacher Moira Lauchlan. Two representatives were elected for each class.
Dalrymple FC Under-17s enjoyed major success in 2004, winning the Land O’Burns and Sevens Soccer Festival at the Old Racecourse in July 2004, just two months after capturing the Scotland Cup Plate at the Ayr International Youth Football Festival.
Ayr’s very own Pop Idol Andrew Merry, 13, narrowly missed out on the chance to represent Great Britain at the 2004 UK Junior Eurovision competition, but he still remained popular amongst classmates at Kyle Academy.
Bargain Books in Ayr held a Balamory drawing competition in 2004. Three-year-old Rebecca Woods scooped the first prize with a superb sketch of Miss Hoolie. Runners-up Fiona Malcolm, five, and Jennifer Ross, six, both chose to draw Archie the inventor.
Marr College’s class of 84 held a 20 year reunion at the Marine Highland Hotel in September 2004. Ex-pupils from the Troon school came from as far afield as the United for the event.
These youngsters had a great time at the HMS Gannet Family Day in September 2004.
