A popular restaurant in Maybole has announced a switch to cash-only operating.

The Greenside said that, due to the amount of money they are forking out to operate card machines, they have decided not to accept card payment.

The decision, announced this week on their Facebook page, was met with a stream of support from people who were keen to avoid a cashless society.

A number of small businesses also backed the move, and backed up the claims that payments to operate card machines are becoming extortionate.

The Greenside team said that the amount they are paying for card transactions would be the equivalent to hiring another staff member.
