A number of conditions have been attached to the approval of an LED advertising screen alongside a busy Prestwick road.

Wildstone Estates applied for permission to replace two static advertising boards at the junction of Ayr Road and Lilybank Road in Prestwick

The screen measures six metres wide by three metres tall, and would be mounted two metres above ground level with a north-east facing elevation at the site, which has carried advertising since as early as 2008.

It was proposed that the digital advertising screen would operate between 6am and 11pm and would host up to six advertising campaigns which can change image every ten seconds.

Planning documents stated: "The proposed display will meet modern requirements and will be capable of displaying six advertising campaigns at a time, sequencing every 10 seconds.

"The proposal is submitted as part of a nationwide project to upgrade traditional advertising hoardings to a modern digital format, which will see an overall reduction in adverts, as multiple advertising campaigns can be supported by single panels.

"The proposals will not change the size of the advert and represents a reduction in the number of advertising boards on the site. As such the established acceptability of the advertisement should not change materially.

"The proposed conditions to control the luminance of the screens and the operation of the digital screens will ensure that there is no additional harm to neighbouring residential amenity, the amenity of the surrounding area or road safety."

Planning officers approved the application, but set out a number of key conditions which the applicant must follow.

These included that the screen must only be in use between 8am and 10pm, and no advertisement displayed shall contain moving images, animation, intermittent or full motion video images, or any images that resemble road signs or traffic signals.

Council officials also mandated that the redundant south facing hoarding must be removed prior to the operation of new electronic signage.
