A series of road closures will be in effect in Ayr on Saturday due to a Protestant group parade. 

The Provincial Grand Black Chapter, a Protestant Loyal Order in amity with the Loyal Orange Institution of Scotland, will be parading through the town starting at midday.

The parade will marshal at 11:45am and will move off at midday from Low Green before following a route through the town centre.

The parade will proceed via Low Green, Pavilion Road, Wellington Square, Barns Street, Dalblair Road, Alloway Street, High Street, New Bridge Street, Sandgate, Fort Street, Bath Place, Queens Terrace and Cromwell Road Coach Park where some participants will depart.

The remainder of the parade will continue along Alloway Place and Racecourse Road, completing a route of around 2.2 miles.

It's expected that the parade will last for approximately 55 minutes.

During the parade, bus services will be unable to use Ayr Bus Station, High Street, Millar Road, Racecourse Road or Sandgate.

Bus services will depart from the following locations while the parade is taking place.

  • Burns Statue Square (at Drouthy Neebours) - services 1/7, 1/9, 42, 52, 58/60, 97, 347 & 361
  • King Street (at TK Maxx car park) – services 2, 43 & 43A
  • King Street (at old police station) – services 6 & X77
  • Main Street (towards Prestwick) - services 4 & 585
  • Services 1/9 & 97 will divert along Monument Road and Greenfield Avenue in both directions.
  • Services 3 and 14 will divert between Morrisons and King Street in both directions via John Street and Station Road.
  • The following journeys on service 2A departing Carrick St WILL NOT operate - 1150, 1210, 1230, 1250, 1310, 1330 & 1350.
