Organisers of the Dundonald Highland Games have thanked the public for their support after a fantastic week of events.

Held next to Royal Dundonald Castle, this year's events marked the culmination of a week of activities including a car and walking treasure hunt, pet show, running and sports events, and a scarecrow competition.

The festivities on August 3 began with a children’s fancy dress competition at Montgomery Hall followed by the procession through the village to the playing fields.

During the opening ceremony, people were able to watch the coronation of the Games Queen and the Chieftain’s address.

Throughout the day the piping arena was home to the RSPBA pipe band and drum major contests, where highly skilled local, regional and international bands competed.

Elsewhere, the solo piping and RSOBHD Highland dancing stages showcased some of the finest Scottish and global talent.

The events arena provided a range of alternative entertainment including some burly Scots competing at the heavy events.

Royal Dundonald Castle and the visitor centre was open all day and the castle provided a magnificent background for the solo lament during the prizegiving and closing ceremony.

The stalls and craft fayre were well worth a visit, with a fantastic blend of commercial stalls and local clubs and organisations from throughout the village.

John Bryson, games chairperson, said: "Thank you to everyone who attended and supported not only Games day but all the events in the run up to the day.

"It's great to see them all so busy and so many people from our village and beyond getting involved and enjoying themselves.

"A special thanks to all our sponsors, advertisers, patrons, local community groups, volunteers and the amazing games committee who, without their generous support, the games just wouldn’t be possible.

"The patrons tent and the piper’s tea sold out this year so we are already looking into what we can do to make these areas bigger and better for next year.

"Thank you to everyone for your continued support and we hope to see you all next year.
