This week, we look back 20 years to the summer of 2004 - a time of Royal visits to South Ayrshire as well as some major sporting events.

Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal officially opened the National Centre for Bowling Northfield and the World Bowls Championships 2004. Bowlers from every corner of the globe had come to Ayr for the event. The Princess, accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire and Arran Richard Henderson, is pictured meeting South Ayrshire Council chief executive Tom Cairns and the area's Provost, Councillor Gordon McKenzie.
North Ayr youngsters were enjoying lessons in break dancing and hip-hop as part of the Workers’ Educational Association’s Ayr North Children’s Art Festival in July 2004. Tutor Christopher Palazzi, pictured, showed off some moves.
Muirhead P7 pupils were enjoying the 2004 Outdoor Moving On programme. The kids had been abseiling at Mauchline gorge, canoeing at Loch Doon and sailing up the West coast, where Ross McCormack, 12, took the helm.
Here’s the victorious Ayr United squad celebrating landing the 2004 West Sound Trophy at the expense of close rivals Kilmarnock. They battled back from two goals down before winning an exciting penalty shoot-out.
Commonwealth games swimmer Peter Smith treated Ayr schoolkids to free swimming lessons at the Citadel leisure centre in July 2004.
