A FASCINATING exhibition showcasing the history of The Open and of public golf in South Ayrshire opens in Ayr this weekend.

'Tee in the Park' is on show at the Rozelle House Museum and Galleries from July 13 to September 22, going on display just in time for the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon.

The exhibition also features intriguing stories from both local and national golf history.

Golf enthusiasts and casual visitors alike will find something to enjoy, from historic artifacts to items from current tour pros, including renowned Scottish players.

Highlights include flags from Tiger Woods' last major win, Seve Ballesteros's clubs, bag and clothes, an immersive projection, and the first ever club to win The Open in 1860 at Prestwick.

Additionally, visitors can enjoy a putting green and a fun crazy golf course that winds through South Ayrshire.

Golf also returns to Rozelle Park, with a free putting green, situated by the café courtyard.

Councillor Alec Clark, South Ayrshire Council's portfolio holder for tourism, culture and rural affairs, said: “With the Open Championship set to begin shortly at Royal Troon, this exhibition is perfectly timed.

"I am thrilled to see ‘Tee in the Park’ come to life at Rozelle, offering both residents and visitors a chance to explore the rich history of golf.

“By exploring both local and national golf stories, the exhibition offers something for everyone.

"It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of golf and could very well inspire the next generation of golfers and enthusiasts.

"We encourage everyone to visit and experience this fascinating journey through golf history.”

A spokesperson from The R&A World Golf Museum said: “We are very keen to support this exhibition with a loan of objects, and look forward to The Claret Jug visiting Rozelle House in August."
