Organisers of a popular gala day in a South Ayrshire village have issued an urgent call for volunteers to save the future of the popular event.

The Kirkmichael gala day is attended by big crowds every year with a range of activities for the whole family including inflatables, rides and live music.

The 2024 event took place on May 25 and was declared a big success by all those involved.

However, organisers now say that the responsibility now lies with just a few people, and more hands are needed to make sure it can go ahead again.

A spokesperson said: "Kirkmichael Gala has gone from success to success but unfortunately we have hit a bump on the road.

"To allow it to continue, we need to restructure how it is run. At the moment too much of the responsibility is on too few people.

"We hope to split some of the responsibility into manageable bite-size pieces, with volunteers from the community taking on key roles in the organisation of the Gala.

"We have no fixed plans for the volunteers roles. We hope to work with those that volunteer to create roles they are comfortable and confident doing.

"But some of the key areas are finding and working with sponsors, treasury tasks etc, as well as some of the hands-on jobs that need done before and after the event itself.

"If you are interested in helping please contact us. We can’t emphasise this enough. If this restructuring plan is unsuccessful, there will be no alternative but to look at how we will wind up the Gala organisation.

"We are actively planning next year’s Gala. We don’t want it to be the last, so please help if you can!"
