PEOPLE and businesses in an Ayrshire village have rallied round to raise enough cash to buy a new piece of life-saving equipment for their community.

An online JustGiving page set up by The Auchans in Dundonald attracted donations totalling hundreds of pounds to buy a new public access defibrillator.

When the appeal was launched, a restaurant spokesperson said: "Along with a few people from the village we are trying to raise money to buy and install a new defibrillator.

"We feel that with the amount of housing, community buildings and businesses that there is a need for one at the top end of the village."

The lifesaving device has now been purchased and installed outside the Montgomery Hall in the village.

The spokesperson added: "There are too many people to mention but a huge thank you to everyone who donated towards this, it is very much appreciated.

"Thank you to Councillor Stephen Ferry for his help and guidance throughout the whole process.

"We hope we never need to use it, but it's installed, just in case."
