Generous pupils at Wellington School in Ayr have raised an astonishing £50,000 for Diabetes UK.

Every year, sixth year pupils at the school run a charity initiative, and choose one cause to support as their charity of this year.

Wellington's deputy head boy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2021, so this year they chose to fundraise for Diabetes UK.

They managed to raise an incredible £50,146 by hosting a series of events and fundraisers throughout the year.

Their efforts included raffles, a Christmas fayre, walking events, a cold water plunge challenge and a Dawn Until Dusk golf event.

Two pupils covered the length of the English Channel in the school swimming pool, and two parents also completed an ultramarathon.

A spokesperson for Diabetes UK said: "This is an outstanding achievement and we have to congratulate and thank each and every person involved for raising so much for people living with or affected by diabetes. Truly inspiring."
