The revamped Astoria cinema in Ayr is set to be enhanced with the introduction of new exterior signage.

The former Odeon facility on Burns Statue Square reopened to great fanfare earlier this year under the ownership of Merlin Cinemas, and thousands of cinema-lovers have since flocked to the venue to watch their favourite movies.

The building is now set for its "jewel in the crown", with new illuminated signage standing tall above the square.

An Astoria spokesperson said: "The jewel in our crown is getting ready for placement...to further enhance your lovely building on Burns Statue Square.

"We're proud to be in Ayr and so humbled you've welcomed and supported us so well. Tens of thousands of visitors so far!"

In June the company's managing director, Geoff Greaves, announced that the business, which operates 20 cinemas in mostly coastal towns around the UK, was to be sold to its own staff as an Employee Ownership Trust.
