Apprentices have been invited to make a positive difference to their communities as part of an annual Ayrshire challenge.
The Ayrshire Apprenticeship Challenge, managed by Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and DYW Ayrshire, is looking for individuals or teams following a Foundation, Modern or Graduate Apprenticeships Framework to come up with projects that can benefit the areas where they live.
Companies of all sizes are invited to put forward their apprentices for the challenge, which this year includes categories for individual apprentices, blended teams and company teams.
From practical projects, fundraising to educating or organising an event, the judges will be looking for an idea that makes an impact to benefit others.
Sponsored by Skills Development Scotland, the challenge showcases the skills and wealth of talent that apprentices across Ayrshire have and gives them an opportunity to develop new skills away from their everyday training.
Ayrshire Chamber CEO Claire Baird said: “Apprenticeships are a superb way for people of all ages to acquire skills while working, and we want to encourage everyone to develop and learn as much as they can.
“Apprenticeships create opportunities for people to work, they give employers the skills they need to succeed, and they help Scotland’s economy to grow and compete in a changing world.
“We can’t wait to see what our awesome Ayrshire apprentices come up with to show us just how much potential they have, and how much of a difference they can make.”
During the challenge, which concludes during Scottish Apprenticeship Week in March 2025, apprentices also have to complete a portfolio to submit to a panel of judges explaining their idea, the budget, and evidence of learning and skills.
Companies have until Friday, August 2 to register their interest. All projects should be completed by January 2025.
Throughout the initiative, optional workshops will be held on team building, leadership, resilience and presentation skills for those taking part.
