Dundonald Castle and Visitor Centre had the pleasure of welcoming 25 members of Clan Cochrane from the United States for a memorable visit recently.

It was the only destination chosen in Ayrshire on their national tour, led by Jamie, Lord Semple.

The occasion was marked by warm greetings, fascinating tours, and a special exhibition organised in collaboration with Dundonald Historical and Archive Society.

The morning highlighted the deep historical connections and shared heritage between the Castle and the Clan.

The day's events commenced with a heartfelt welcome by Provost Iain Campbell and Deputy Provost Mary Kilpatrick.

Their gracious hospitality set the tone for a day of exploration and celebration. Following the welcome, Clan Cochrane members embarked on a guided tour of Dundonald Castle, where they delved into the rich history and significance of this fascinating historical site.

The visit also included an engaging walking tour of the nearby Old Auchans Castle. This picturesque and historically rich site provided an added layer of depth to the clan's search in to their ancestral roots.

A highlight of the day was the specially curated Cochrane exhibition in the Dundonald Castle museum.

This exhibition featured a collection of documents and archival exhibits that celebrated the legacy and contributions of Clan Cochrane throughout history.

It was a unique opportunity for clan members to connect with their heritage in an intimate and informative setting, and to speak with the knowledgeable guides.

No visit to Dundonald Castle would be complete without experiencing the quintessential charm of a traditional afternoon tea

After a day filled with exploration and discovery, the guests enjoyed a delightful assortment of teas, cakes, and sandwiches, offering a perfect moment of relaxation and reflection in the Visitor Centre.

Time spent with members of our local community and Castle volunteers was, for many, the icing on the cake.

Friends of Dundonald Castle extend our heartfelt thanks to the members of Clan Cochrane for taking the time to visit.

A spokesperson said: "Your presence made this day truly special, and we hope you enjoyed your time with us as much as we enjoyed hosting you. We look forward to welcoming you all again soon."
