THE contents of Ayr's former Debenhams store are to be sold off in an online auction - more than three years after the shop closed its doors.

The Ayr Central store closed for the last time in December 2020 after the company's liquidation was confirmed.

Now an auction company has announced it is clearing out the store's assets - but would-be buyers don't have long to get their bids in.

The auction, being held by NCM Auctions of Doncaster, features a broad selection of items, including store fixtures, fittings, designer display stands, sofas, and lighting.

Along with this, an escalator is included in the auction, which is currently ongoing and will conclude on June 27 at 1pm.

The auction is expected to draw considerable interest from buyers looking for functional and decorative items.

This event marks the end of an era for Debenhams in Ayr, while opening opportunities for buyers to own a piece of retail history.

Kevin Lang, centre manager for Ayr Central said: "With the closure of Debenhams, this auction represents a poignant moment for Ayr.

"It offers both businesses and individuals the chance to acquire high-quality retail fixtures, preserving a piece of retail history while giving these items a new lease on life.

"We expect strong local interest given the variety of the assets available.

"Having seen NCM Auctions successfully hold auctions for other Debenhams stores, I am confident this event will be managed with the utmost professionalism and efficiency."
